To feel alive...

An individual can feel love, feel pain, feel many things. Breathing in that fresh scent of air out in the morning, looking up in the sky... makes me feel so alive. In my opinion, being alive is to feel the people around yourself, to feel your heart beating, to feel real to yourself and the ones around you. Vonnegut's quote: 'How nice-- to feel nothing, and still get full credit for being alive', even at first glance, it definitely gave an impression that it was Vonnegut's piece of writing (well, to me at least).  His creative and blended style of sarcastic, humorous, and really casual tone really grasps my attention because it's so unique. It's quite different, and I love it. He can be very straight forward, but really descriptive at the same time. But anyways, back to the quote. Reading that quote right off the sheet of paper gave me two impressions: either a heartless individual, who does not feel anything, getting a full credit for being alive, or someone who actually passed away and cannot feel anything anymore getting a full credit for being alive. Either way, it is impressionable that the quote is very sarcastic because obviously, it is not 'nice' for someone to feel nothing, and get a full credit for being alive. It can definitely seem rude depending on how you interpretate it. Seeing as it is though, it's not such a pleasing quote. He makes it seem like that person should not be credited for being alive which can indicate that the individual is useless since the individual does not feel. Kind of harsh, don't you think? Even though every individual should definitely be happy, and really live each moment to their fullest, but still I don't think that it is right for someone to judge another if they should be credited for being alive or not. The more I read SH5, the abruptness of his writing becomes kind of... casual in a way I suppose? And I've adapted to his style of writing. His writing is really addictive in a way, because you constantly discover something new about his writing and it's amusing.

  1. I agree about the feeling part. Very nice emphasis with the italics, I could clearly see what you were trying to convey after reading your blog :)
